Observational Essay Essay Observations are a type of primary research that involves spending time watching people or other creatures interact with each other and the world around them. Observations are used in nearly every field and can be incredibly useful in gathering information. Types of Participation Before observing, consider how you as an observer may alter the event being observed.  ·How fully will you participate in the event?  ·Will you simply sit, watch, and take notes with no interaction?  ·Will you interact with the participants?  ·Will you become a participant yourself? These different choices can radically change what you end up observing. The mere presence of an observer may alter the eventsand if you interact with participants, you further risk changing what takes place. The other side to this is that by not participating in an event, you may not gain a complete understanding of that event. How to Observe When observing, it is especially important to separate observations from your feelings or reactions to observations. A good way to do this is to take your observations in a double-entry notebook. A double-entry notebook has two columns, one for what is directly observed and one is for what the observer interprets from the events. Here is an example: Observation: The teacher walks around the circle and speaks to each student individually. Interpretation: The teacher seems to want to make sure that each student understands the assignment. If you are observing a group that is not found in public (such as a group of card players, a sports team, or a special-interest group), it may be wise to plan to spend multiple sittings with the group. This will allow the group some time to adjust to your presence (and hence, for you to get more accurate observations). Recordings vs. Note-taking How will you be observing? Will you be taking notes in a notebook? With a laptop? Will you be recording your observations in some way (with a digital camera, video camera, digital recorder, etc? How you choose to observe is  another important consideration that can affect the quality and results of your observations. Remember that you cannot capture everything that takes place with a recording or by even by taking detailed notes. What to Observe Observational skills require some practice! The key to being a good observer is to pay attention to the details of a situation, write as much as you can, and write it as detailed as possible. The Storm :: essays research papers

To write a story, an author must take in consideration all aspects of the world he is creating for us to imagine. Choplin's 'The Storm'; however, takes the setting of a story to a different level, the setting can be said to take on a life of it's own, and to manipulate the two characters into passion with one another. In 'The Storm'; , Choplin uses the quick intensity of the weather to symbolize, and provoke the relationships and actions of the character's in the story. An author has complete control over his or her story: the setting, the weather, location, characters, the list could go on and on. So it's important that the reader pick up on every aspect that the author has created, because, the author has intended for it to be that way, and to help round out the story.This is especially important with the way the actions between Calixta and Alcee relate to a storm that had started almost as soon as Alcee rode up on his horse. As Alcee stands on the porch, (the actual text notes tha t he had no intention of walking inside the house), the water beat through the boards forcing Alcee to enter the house. The water even went so far as to actually follow Alcee into the house, to the point where it was necessary to put something beneath the door to keep the water out. More instances where the storm relates with the characters is when Calixta is looking out the window, and a lightning bolt strikes a tree, and causes Calixta to fall into the arms of Alcee, foreshadowing the passion that is to come later between the two. Also, it introduces them to their lust for each other, which not only foreshadows what it to come, but, it also initiates them into their path to love making. Another aspect is the fact that when the storm begins to fade away, the story notes that at this point it invites them to sleep, but they dare not stop what they were doing. This is a crucial part in the story, it is where the two characters do not yield to what the storm has suggested. At this par t, they take over and let nothing stop them. Finally, the storm ends, and Alcee leaves. This suggests the storm represented passion, and when the passion was over, Alcee departs just a fast as he came.

Indian Ocean Trade Essay

During the time period between 300 CE and 1450 CE the Indian Ocean Trade was consistent of its spread of goods, religion, and the growth of trade route under different empires. On the other hand, the significant changes were the ways of trade, diffusion of religion, and empires controlling the trade route. Economically, the Indian Ocean Trade stayed the same in the way of spreading goods, but changed in the means of trading. Around the fifth century CE long- distant trade by land was mostly used. Trade of exotic products for the elite, such as; silk, spices, and gems, were spread all throughout the trade network and were incorporated into local markets. This is because there were new markets being built and goods spread. Methods of trade changed for the better. Land travel was no longer the only method of transporting goods. Ships in the thirteenth century could only travel by monsoon winds. With the introduction of maneuverable sails, ships like the dhow and junk were able to move goods under many wind conditions. This helped a great deal because the people would not have to wait as long for the delivery of trade goods. Culturally, the Indian Ocean Trade was consistent in the spread of religion and ideas, a change was the diffusion of cultures by religion. The Muslims were a prime example of this continuity. They were a big religion, and as their merchants traded, their religion spread as well. On the other hand, Islam is a great example of the change. Islam came into regions that didn’t have a big religious base. As people converted, their old culture diffused. From this, regions lost their identity because people were converting, whether it was by force of new leaders or by choice. Politically, a continuity of the Indian Ocean Trade is growing while under different empires, and a change in which empires controlled the trade  network. An example of the continuity would be the Mongols, how they made trade much easier and made it grow. Many merchants benefited from the Yuan Dynasty, around the fourteenth century. This ties to the change, because from 300 CE to 1450 CE there were different empires, such as, Sui and Tang Dynasty, Swahili States, Mongols, and Islamic Caliphates. The different empires made trade grow and spread. As the empires grew the routes changed, connecting trade routes to the; Trans- Sahara, Silk Road, South Asian, and Mediterranean routes. During 300 CE and 1450 CE changes involving the Indian Ocean included how goods were transported, cultures were diffused due to new religions, and the empires that controlled. Trade on the Indian Ocean steadily increased the spread of goods and religion even though it was controlled by different empires.
